Day branch

The CWA of NSW is the largest women's organisation in Australia. Its aim is to improve conditions for Australian women and children by lobbying for change, helping the local community, creating a network of support and meeting together in towns and cities.

Tarago has two CWA branches in the Southern Tablelands Group of the CWA of NSW. The Tarago Day Branch meet at the CWA rooms opposite the Tarago Service Station on the Goulburn / Braidwood Road, Tarago on the second Wednesday of each month, commencing 10am for a 10.30am start.

The Tarago Day Branch is involved in a range of activities.

  • We support the local community wherever we are needed, we assist at the Tarago Public School and participate across a number of areas at the local Agricultural Show.

  • We support broader CWA awareness raising and lobbying activities, including participating in the State Conference each year to discuss issues of importance to Australian women and their families.

  • The Day Branch is a member of and supports the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW), the largest international organisation for both rural and urban women.

  • Each year CWA members learn about a particular country selected by the CWA of NSW. Tarago Day Branch hosts an International Day event for local schools and invited guests each year, centred on the Country.

  • We also learn about particular flora and fauna, and environmental friends and foes, and a primary product.

  • The Branch hosts an active Handicraft Group ("Crafty Monday Group") that meets on Mondays from 10.30am. Some of the handicrafts include knitting, crocheting, weaving, embroidery and sewing. Members enter annual cookery and handicraft competitions and have been successful at Group and State level. Some members sew for neonatal needs as well as injured wildlife needs.

We host events for our members, including Melbourne Cup and Christmas Day luncheons.

The Branch donates annually to the State office Disaster Relief Fund and to the Education Scholarships to assist Year 6 students to transition to High School.

To support our activities we raise funds through catering including at the Tarago Show, the quarterly CAPS Market in Tarago, Bunnings' sausage sizzles, and other functions from time to time. Our rooms are available for occasional hire.
